Why participate in therapy?

Unaddressed emotional and mental issues can have significant impact on our occupational, social, academic, physical, and personal well-being.  Mental illness causes persons to miss work, be unproductive on jobs or in academic settings, and contribute to problems with self-esteem and self-confidence.  Unfortunately, one of the greatest impacts untreated emotional and mental health issues can have is on our personal relationships with our partners, spouses, children, relatives,  and close friends.  If you are experiencing difficulties in of these life areas, get help now!  Call us at 504-327-5753 and get support from highly trained professionals to begin making adjustments in your life.

Why play therapy?

According to The Association for Play Therapy defines play therapy as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.” Play therapy is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the “language” of the child – play.  Trained professionals therapeutically use play to help clients, most often children ages three to 12 years, to better express themselves and resolve problems.

Play Therapy works best when a safe relationship is created between the therapist and client, one in which the latter may freely and naturally express both what pleases and bothers them.

Play Therapy is used a primary intervention or as supportive therapy for:

  • Behavioral problems, such as anger management, grief and loss, divorce and abandonment, and crisis and trauma.
  • Behavioral disorders, such as anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), autism or pervasive developmental, academic and social developmental, physical and learning disabilities, and conduct disorders.

Research suggests Play Therapy is an effective mental health approach, regardless of age, gender, or the nature of the problem, and works best when a parent, family member, or caretaker is actively involved in the treatment process (APT, 2014).

Why In-Home Counseling?

In home and in-office therapy services are convenient, comfortable and private for our clients.  Therapy in the home or office setting is convenient, and allows the client to seek support in a secure and comfortable environment.  In addition, for those clients that have difficulty getting out of the home due to medical ailments or other impairments can still receive therapeutic support from a professional counselor on our staff.

How can medication management help?

Psychotherapy in conjunction with psychotropic medication is very effective and comprehensive in treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, mood disorders, and other psychological issues.  DuraCARE Counseling & Consulting Services, LLC has licensed psychiatrists and nurse practitioners on staff to assist with psychiatric consultation and medication management.
